Who is Jesus?

United Shalom Pentecostal Church firmly believes in the historical existence of Jesus. Sure, there may be some debate among scholars, but, the overwhelming evidence points to Jesus having lived and having been a very important figure in history.

Some thought He was a wise man or a great prophet. Others thought He was a madman. Still others couldn’t decide or didn’t care. Some are content to think of Him as a great moral teacher. Even His enemies understood His claims to deity. That’s why they tried to stone Him to death and eventually had Him crucified. The world calendar and the BC/AD dating system hang on the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. He is indeed a man of History! Jesus is more than a historical figure or a great teacher who once lived

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity, believed by Christians to be the Son of God and the Savior of humanity. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection are the foundation of the Christian faith.
He was a historical figure. Yes, he lived. Jesus of Nazareth was a Jewish preacher and religious leader who lived in the first century in the region of Judea and Galilee (modern-day Israel and Palestine). He was born to Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth.

Jesus taught about love, forgiveness, and the Kingdom of God. His teachings emphasized compassion, humility, and the importance of loving God and one’s neighbour. Notable teachings include the Sermon on the Mount, the parables, and the Great Commandment.

Jesus performed numerous miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding thousands with a few loaves and fish, and walking on water. These miracles are seen as signs of His divine authority and compassion.

Crucifixion and Resurrection: Jesus was crucified under Roman authority, an event Christians commemorate on Good Friday. Christians believe that three days after His death, He rose from the dead, an event celebrated on Easter Sunday. This resurrection is seen as the cornerstone of Christian faith, symbolizing victory over sin and death.

Divine Nature: We believe Jesus is both fully divine and fully human, the second person of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). He is seen as the promised Messiah (Christ) who fulfills Old Testament prophecies.

Savior and Redeemer: Jesus’ death is atonement for the sins of humanity, offering salvation to all who believe in Him. Through faith in Jesus, believers receive forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.
